Government Affairs

Mission & Role

Port Tampa Bay’s Government Affairs office serves as the bridge between the Port, legislative bodies, regulatory agencies, local governments, and community stakeholders. Our mission is to advocate for policies and programs that support safe, sustainable, and economically vibrant port operations — while ensuring that the Port remains an effective partner in regional and state-level development.

We strive to:

Advocate for smart legislation and regulation
Port Tampa Bay actively works with policymakers to ensure that legislation supports both the maritime industry and the local economy. We advocate for policies that enhance trade opportunities, streamline permitting, promote job creation, and maintain high standards of safety and environmental stewardship.

Build lasting relationships with government partners
We maintain strong, collaborative relationships with local, state, and federal officials. These partnerships ensure that the Port’s priorities are well understood and that government leaders recognize the Port’s role as a critical economic engine for the Tampa Bay region and the State of Florida.

Secure resources for growth and resiliency
The Port’s success depends on strategic investment in infrastructure and security. We strive to secure federal and state funding for dredging, terminal expansion, intermodal connectivity, environmental protection, and port security initiatives, ensuring the Port remains competitive and resilient in a rapidly changing global trade environment.

Ensure transparency, compliance, and accountability
Government Affairs at Port Tampa Bay is committed to upholding the highest standards of compliance and public accountability. From navigating regulatory processes to maintaining full transparency in public reporting, we ensure that our operations align with government requirements and community expectations.

Promote the Port’s value to the community and economy
We consistently communicate the Port’s impact — from sustaining tens of thousands of local jobs to generating billions in economic activity. Through public outreach, legislative testimony, and community engagement, we highlight how the Port supports not only commerce, but also environmental stewardship, public safety, and regional quality of life.
