Richard Ghent

Senior Manager

How long have you worked for/with the Port? I have been in the Port for 20 years. It’s a great community. I’ve also worked in the phosphate industry for 39 years.

What are your main responsibilities? As Senior Manager, Public Affairs I am involved developing internal and external communications on issues of importance to Mosaic. It’s telling the story about the great people and important mission of the phosphate industry.

What do you love most about your job? The people. I have been blessed to work in a great industry with an important mission and surrounded by great people. The friendships have endured for decades.

What advice would you give to the younger generation? Find a way to be a part of a great team. Make it fun and rewarding. Give it your best and don’t be afraid to take chances on assignments that challenge you and help you to grow. Be humble and help others around you to succeed. It’s not all about you.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? Seven feet tall and an unstoppable force on the basketball court like Bill Russell (that didn’t happen). So I decided to work on becoming an accomplished guitar player (still a work in progress).

When you are not at work, what do you enjoy doing? I have lots of interests. Hanging out with my lovely and inspiring wife. Playing bluegrass and country music with all my buddies. Hiking on trails in the mountains. Playing really bad golf. Reading about history. Hanging out with friends and family. Going to church and giving thanks for my many blessings.
