A message from Port Tampa Bay to our customers, tenants and community

Port Hosts Successful Hurricane Exercise for Maritime and Emergency Response Community

Port Tampa Bay held the 13th Annual Hurricane Exercise on Wednesday, May 7, in partnership with the U.S. Coast Guard Southeast and U.S. National Weather Service. As one of the state’s energy gateways, our port plays an important role in the community’s recovery from a major storm. Local and statewide representatives attend this annual event including representatives from our maritime community, law enforcement, government, public safety and emergency response. This year’s exercise took on increased importance, as many people are still recovering from a devastating hurricane season in 2024.

The Hurricane Exercise is one of the many ways we remain prepared and strengthen our resiliency. This year’s exercise paid special attention to the aftermath of a storm, including the surveying our channels. Port Tampa Bay was one of the first ports in the nation to receive the "Storm Ready" certification from the National Weather Service. More than 100 participants from the port community and partnering organizations took part in this year’s event. Port Tampa Bay will continue to work with our partnering agencies and tenants to minimize the impacts of severe weather on our operations throughout this year’s hurricane season.

U.S. Navy’s USS Gravely calls Port Tampa Bay

This week Port Tampa Bay welcomed the U.S. Navy’s USS Gravely to port as the ship refuels and provisions.

The ship’s  Commanding Officer, Gregory Piorun, met with top leaders to tour his vessel and welcome their sailors. Port staff helped connect the ship’s crew with areas of interest in our Tampa Bay region so they could make the most of their time at port.

Our port stands ready to support our nation’s armed services in any way we are able and we thank our Security and Operations team for helping to coordinate the vessel’s visit.
