Port Tampa Bay Raises Record Donation at 2019 Charity Golf Tournament

- Tampa, Fl.  (April 12, 2019) – Port Tampa Bay raised approximately $84,000 at its fifth annual charity golf tournament to benefit the Tampa Seafarers Center and the Tampa Bay Maritime Scholarship Foundation, a new record for the annual golf tournament. That’s a 27% increase over the $66,000 that was raised at last year’s event.

“I am proud that we are able to provide opportunities for young people to pursue their dreams of working in the maritime industry because of this event each year,” stated Port Tampa Bay President & CEO, Paul Anderson.

Graduates of the Hillsborough County Maritime Technology Program at Howard W. Blake High school and Thomas Jefferson High School Magnet Honors Maritime Academy are granted scholarships to pursue careers in the maritime industry with the money raised each year at the golf tournament. Proceeds are also used to benefit the Tampa Seafarers Center, which serves seafarers and others who use the facilities of the Port.

The Port event was hosted at the Eagles Golf Club in Odessa. A sellout 64 teams participated on its two golf courses for a chance to win trophies and prizes from several sponsors, including the grand prize: a 7-day cruise for two from Carnival Cruise Lines.
